The Pay Transparency Act (PTA) comes into force in B.C. on November 1, 2023. If you're posting a job publicly, you must disclose the salary or wage information for the posted position.

The Pay Transparency Act (PTA) comes into force in B.C. on November 1, 2023.  If you're posting a job publicly, you must disclose the salary or wage information for the posted position.

B.C. Government recently provided guidance on complying with the job posting requirements of the PTA:

  1. Employers must state the expected salary or wage.  However, potential bonuses, overtime pay, tips, and benefits do not need to be disclosed.

  2. The salary information must match what you reasonably plan to pay for the job when you post it.

  3. If you're doing a range, be specific.  The use of “up to” is unacceptable. Instead, go for something like “between $55,000 and $65,000.”

  4. If you put up a range, it doesn't mean applicants can't ask for more, or that you can't offer more than what you posted.

  5. This rule applies not just to job posts by the employer but also to third parties posting on job sites. And even if the job is outside of B.C., if B.C. folks can apply (for either in-person or remote positions) the PTA applies.
